If one leads by example, then Lauren Wargelin has given many examples. From serving as a training coordinator for orientation, to the treasurer of her Sigma Alpha Tau sorority, to working as a tutor, peer mentor, and Greek outreach coordinator, Wargelin has provided leadership on many levels.

“As the training coordinator for orientation, I was able to incorporate activities that helped group leaders discover their strengths and inspire them to become the best leaders possible,” Wargelin said.

Lauren has also dedicated time to playing in the Cardinal Marching Band and volunteering with Relay for Life and the Ronald McDonald House. However, she admits her most significant moment of her Otterbein experience was being crowned homecoming queen during the fall of 2011.

“The experience helped me take complete ownership of my actions,” she said. “When I was standing on the football field in front of so many of my peers, I realized that it is my obligation to hold myself to a high standard in everything I do, especially in the way I treat people.”

Wargelin would advise an incoming student to make their Otterbein experience what they want it to be.
“This is a school with rich opportunity. All you have to do in order to be successful is to take advantage of those opportunities around you.”
