Driven, compassionate, and enthusiastic, Kahla Johnson has definitely made her mark within the Otterbein Communication Department.
Johnson has served as the Operations Manager for WOCC TV3, a local Westerville station that is housed on campus and run by Otterbein students. In addition, she has devoted time as the Training and Development Coordinator for Otterbein’s WOBN 97.5 student radio station.
Kahla helped plan 2011 homecoming day events, was a member of the 2011 orientation team, and has contributed as the Freelance Producer to Otterbein360.com, a website run by students from different media groups within the Communication Department.
Johnson credits Stephen Rossman, Assistant Director of TV and Technical Operations at WOCC, for pushing her along the way.
“He has driven me to be the best I can be,” she said. “He is always around to assist me with questions about my major, or if I just need to vent. He has given me advice that I will take far into my career and has made me a more responsible person.”
Johnson has taken advantage of internship opportunities, working as an intern for Columbus, Ohio NBC 4 as well as journeying to the 2010 Broadcasting Convention (Louisville, Ky.) and the 2011 National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Conference in Covington, Ky.
“As I was sitting there in a session, I had this realization that I was getting this amazing opportunity because of the school I picked to spend my four years at,” Johnson explained. “I have been given countless opportunities and have encountered some of the most amazing people to shape me into the person I am today. Each day I learn something new or meet someone new, and that leaves a mark on my heart. This is all because of Otterbein.”
