Common Hour - Exploring the Otterbein Virtual Classroom

Collaborate Common Hour Invitation Monday, Feb. 23 Roush 114Join us as we explore Otterbein's virtual classroom system, powered by Blackboard Collaborate.  This common hour will consist of a live session with participants on campus with others joining in remotely. We will highlight the various possible uses of Collaborate on campus, including synchronous communication for blended and online courses, meetings, and similar sessions.

  • That’s so ‘Retarded’: Disability Portrayal in Media & Film with Caity McCandless, OSU and Chris Keck, Columbus State Community College

    Join Otterbein, OSU, and Columbus State Disability Services staff in a diversity-based discussion to increase your mindfulness of students and individuals with disabilities. Discussion will stem from samples of mainstream popular media that demonstrate positive and negative portrayals of disabilities.
  • Teacher Identity & Student Expectations with Kathryn Plank, Center for Teaching & Learning
    Tuesday, April 7; 12:00-1:00 pm

    Whether it is our race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or another aspect of identity, who we are as people can affect what happens in our classrooms. In this session, we will examine some of the research on students' perceptions, expectations, and behavior based on teacher identity. Join us to share your own experiences and talk with other teachers as we explore the implications of this research and what it means for us as teachers.

Spring 2015 Book Discussion Group: Whistling Vivaldi

The Center for Teaching & Learning and the Otterbein ADVANCE Grant is co-sponsoring a group to discuss Whistling Vivaldi by Claude M. Steele, a book about "how stereotypes affect us and what we can do". The group is open to university faculty and staff. Participants will receive a free copy ofWhistling Vivaldi Boook Group Invite the book. Meetings will be held at the following dates and times:
