Facilities for Otterbein University Media
Otterbein is dedicated to keeping up-to-date with
current multimedia equipment and software. The Department of
Communication is housed in a newly renovated building that boasts two
multimedia labs, loaded with the most recent versions of page layout,
web design, digital photo editing, audio editing, presentation and
animation software. Students use Avid editing software, the same
software used by television networks and the Hollywood film industry.
WOBN-FM Radio Station
Students at WOBN-FM learn how to do remotes and live airshifts on the
NexGen Automation system. The WOBN Production studios contain MAC and
PC-based digital editing software. All software lends itself to
producing podcasts and digital files in MP3 format. Listen live!
Otterbein.tv Television Station
Otterbein.tv is a government access television station reaching about 20,000
cable and AT&T U-Verse subscribers in Westerville and Columbus,
Ohio. It can also be watched around the world via live-streaming
capabilities on the web. Watch now!
Otterbein.tv gives students of any major the chance to explore the many areas of
television and discover what appeals to them the most. Even those who
have no previous television experience are invited to join Otterbein.tv and work
with skilled student staff and professionals who give individualized
attention and personal training on all equipment.
Students are introduced to the technical side of productions by serving
as camera operators, editors, audio and video technicians, graphic
designers, technical directors, and other television crew positions.
Serving as on-air talent enables students to grow as broadcast
performers while building resume tapes. Auditions for talent are held
each quarter and are open to all students. Talent positions include news
and sports anchors, reporters, and announcers for various Otterbein University and Westerville City School sporting events.
