Equestrian Teams
Be an equestrian and a scholar at Otterbein.  Our nationally competitive equestrian team will allow you to meet your competition goals and expand your equestrian interests.  Otterbein is proud to offer several different options for its equestrians.  Riders have the opportunity to participate in three different disciplines; Hunt Seat, Dressage, and Eventing.

The IDA National Championships, hosted by Otterbein University are being broadcast online live, Saturday & Sunday, April 25-26:

  • Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat Team

    Huntseat Equine TeamThe huntseat team is open to all levels of riders.  IHSA shows consist of nine divisions and riders compete in regional competitions throughout the academic year.  Strong placings will secure a position in the Zone and/or National Championship Horse Show as a team or individual.   Riders also have the opportunity to hone their show skills at local rated and unrated horse shows.  Riders can compete on their own horse or one of the many suitable mounts owned by Otterbein University. To be eligible for the team, riders are required to register for at least two lessons per week. 

    Huntseat Equine TeamOtterbein's 2014-15 IHSA team finished as the Zone 6, Region 2 Championship Team. This championship earned Otterbein a spot at the Zone 6 finals where Otterbein finished as the reserve champion team, securing a spot at the IHSA National Championships held on April 30-May 3, 2015 at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA.  Otterbein is also represented in the Cacchione Cup by Mattie Boyd, Intermediate Over Fences by Samantha Psanis, and Novice Over Fences by Megan DeMott.

  • Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) Team

    Dressage TeamThe Dressage Team is open to all levels of riders. IDA shows consist of four divisions.   Riders compete in a regional competition throughout the academic year.  Strong placings will secure a position at the National Championship Horse Show as a team or individual rider. To be eligible for the team, riders are required to register for at least two lessons per week.

  • Eventing Team

    Eventing TeamThe event team is open to all levels of riders.  Competitions are available for students on both personally owned horses and Otterbein horses.  If riding an Otterbein owned horse, riders may be required to maintain a horse lease, depending on their level and competition goals.  Selected riders will travel to both rated USEA/USEF horse trials and unrated schooling shows.  Team members also have the opportunity to participate in clinics and combined tests hosted at the Knowlton Center. To be eligible for the team, riders are required to register for at least two lessons per week.
