BFA Acting: Apply

The Importance of Being Ernest (2013)

Audition Guidelines for ON CAMPUS Audition Guidelines for UNIFIEDs

Candidates for the B.F.A. degree in Acting must complete an audition to be considered for admission into the Department of Theatre and Dance. Auditions and interviews take place between December and February, and offers of admission are made by mid March. Students who do not audition by February 20 must defer consideration of admission to the following year.

All applicants for the BFA in Acting are required to submit a pre-screening video in order to be invited to an audition on campus or at one of the National Unified Audition sites.

Application: Pre-Screening

Please do not apply for admission to Otterbein University until you have completed the pre-screening process. If you have applied already, as part of the Common Application for example, do not be concerned. But if you have not yet applied, wait until you hear that you have been invited to audition.

Speed the Plow (2013)In the pre-screening process, you will record short audition videos and upload them to Acceptd. You will immediately be notified that we have received your materials. Within 7 business days, our Audition Team will send you an e-mail inviting you to audition, or an e-mail notice that you will not receive an invitation. You will be notified either way.  All notifications are done via message on Acceptd (please check settings to ensure you receive notification). Please note that YouTube links will not be reviewed.

There must be a video uploaded to Acceptd for each of the following criteria:

  1. Upload an introduction. Please say your name clearly, the city you’re from, and the pieces that you’re going to do. For monologues, we only need the name of the play and the author.
  2. Upload two monologues taken from plays of your choice (see guidelines for specific information). Any genre is acceptable for the pre-screening. Your total audition time is three minutes.  One monologue can be short and one can be longer, but together the monologue clips should not exceed three minutes.

* Please note that we require separate videos for the introduction, monologue 1 and monologue 2.
* Our goal is to make the pre-screening possible for students who don’t have access to equipment other than a smart phone or a laptop. We will not be influenced by the professional quality of the video.
* For advice on choosing and performing your monologues, please select the guidelines that best suit you (on campus or Unified) located at the top of the page.  If you have questions about the guidelines or the audition process, please email audition@otterbein.edu.

  3. Upload a resume. Be sure to include activities, leadership, and special skills pertaining to theatre.
  4. Upload a photograph. We prefer a headshot, but if you don’t have one, send us any close-up that you have of yourself.

Pre-screens are viewed as they are received. There are a limited number of spaces available for both on-campus and unified auditions, so it is recommended that you pre-screen early to secure the audition date of your choice. We recommend submitting your pre-screen at least 30 days prior to your preferred audition date.
Friday, January 1, 2016 is the final date to submit a pre-screen for the 2016-2017 school year.  Late pre-screens will not be processed, please plan for weather and/or technical delays.

We will begin accepting pre-screenings on September 1, 2015. To set up an account and submit your pre-screening materials to Acceptd, click here.
