For Current Otterbein Faculty

Humanities Funding and Award Opportunities

For Otterbein University faculty members:

Co-Sponsored Programs Grant
With this grant, the Humanities Advisory Committee (HAC) will help support humanities-related events and programs on campus. The HAC will cover up to half of the total budget for the event or program. These funds can, for example, help to pay the costs of bringing a speaker to campus; partially cover the costs of a student publication; assist in covering the costs of a film discussion group or book club. There is no deadline for the submission of this proposal, though funds will be spent as applications are approved.

Faculty-Student Enrichment Experiences Grant
With this grant, the HAC will help support Humanities departments who wish to provide enrichment experiences for their students. The HAC will provide up to $1,000 per department per academic year to support activities in which faculty and students are engaging together in humanities-related activities beyond the Otterbein campus. There is no deadline for the submission of the proposal for this grant. The following departments are eligible for funding: Art, English, Modern Languages, History and Political Science, Music, Religion and Philosophy, and Theater and Dance.

Humanities Travel Funds
These funds help support travel to humanities-related conferences. All full-time faculty members are eligible to apply. Deadline is March 8, 2013.

Humanities Faculty Project Grants
These funds help support faculty research in the humanities. Though it is not the only way to use these funds, they have supported faculty travel to archives around the world, and other sorts of humanities projects which have required large cost. The deadline for the submission of proposals is usually in early January.

Summer Writing Awards
The committee funds multiple awards to faculty who are engaged in professional development, conference attendance, research, and who are working to turn their research into publications by devoting their summers to working on articles, book chapters, and monographs. Read the Summer Writing Awards Proposal Guidelines for more information.
