Otterbein student invited to national investigative reporting workshop

December 9, 2011

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein University junior Lindsey Hobbs has earned a spot at the Investigative Reporters and Editors Workshop, held in Phoenix, Arizona from January 5-8, 2012.

A double major in journalism and public relations, Hobbs is one of a select few students from a non-journalism school that has been accepted to the highly competitive national workshop.

Hobbs currently serves as the editor-in-chief for Otterbein’s Tan & Cardinal student newspaper and is also involved with the Otterbein chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). She has been able to utilize the guidance of Mike Wagner, an award-winning investigative journalist at The Columbus Dispatch, during her time at the Tan & Cardinal paper.

In addition, Hobbs recently received an internship with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and will also serve as the web editor for Otterbein360.com this coming spring. Otterbein360.com is the home of Otterbein’s media, including the Tan & Cardinal, WOBN 97.5 FM and Otterbein.tv, the Westerville City television station.

Students attending the workshop will take part in three days of panels, brainstorming sessions, and hands-on computer-assisted reporting classes, with the goal of obtaining strategies to provide more in-depth coverage of their respective campus.
