Interdisciplinary Programs and Majors
The best of both worlds.
Some of our programs and majors are interdisciplinary. They combine elements of different departments to create a unique and relevant learning experience. Take a look at our interdisciplinary programs and majors today.
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
There's a whole new way to individualize your science education at Otterbein. Our new major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is supported by the Department of Biology and Earth Science and the Department of Chemistry. Using the basic tools of chemistry and biology to dissect how organisms, cells, and molecules function, students can adapt their studies to their individual interests. Learn more.
Environmental Studies
Otterbein's Environmental Studies program strives to challenge students to look beyond the surface of the issues and explore the complexity of what may seem to be simple solutions. Exploring questions like: when isn't recycling good, or why could ethanol cause social and water resource impacts if it replaces hydrocarbons, help students look not just at technical solutions, but also at the far-reaching impacts of environmentally motivated changes. Employers and communities value an individual's ability to critically assess, understand and communicate these difficult issues.
The Environmental Studies Program offers the following courses of study:
- Environmental Studies minor
- B.A. major in Sustainability Studies
- B.S. major in Sustainability Studies
