Utilize a Multifaceted Approach

• Networking

  Who do you know? Nearly 70% of jobs are secured through networking. Tap into your personal network to identify individuals who can provide you advice and/or access to their network.

  Conduct Informational Interviews which can help students who are in the process of making career choices, beginning a job hunt, changing careers, or even choosing a major. To learn more, click here.

  LinkedIn. Create your professional profile and join the Otterbein Alumni Group that has over 1,500 members. New to LinkedIn? Check out this video.

  Develop a networking strategy and be sure to keep your network updated with your progress. Thank you notes are also a must! 

• Targeted Organizations

  Looking to identify potential employers in a particular city? Chambers of Commerce are a great way to learn what organizations are located in certain cities. Seek out a Membership or Business Directory from the Chamber website and from there you can search by keyword or industry category to obtain contact information for organizations that match your criteria.

  Professional associations are another great way to identify potential employers. If you are looking to enter the fields of architecture or museums or graphic design, Google the industry followed by 'professional association' and you'll find another great place to identify potential employers, as well as internship/job opportunities. Consider joining these, too, to increase your professional presence. 

• Job Postings

  Sites such as www.indeed.com, www.simplyhired.com, and www.idealist.org, provide you broad access to job postings from specific employers, as well as industry-specific job boards. And, Cardinal Careers, is where employers specifically seeking Otterbein talent are posting their opportunities.
