Fraternity and sorority recruitment will take place during Fall Semester. The recruitment process is different for men and women.
Throughout the beginning of fall semester the fraternities will host recruitment events and informational meetings. The formal recruitment period for the eight Interfraternity Council (IFC) fraternities takes place the end of September/beginning of October and last for two weeks.
Alpha Sigma Phi - Sunday, September 27
Sigma Delta Phi - Monday, September 28 in Roush Hall
Lambda Gamma Epsilon - Tuesday, September 29 from 9:30 - 10:10pm at Kings Fraternity (94 W. Park Street)
Zeta Phi - Wednesday, September 30
Phi Delta Theta - Thursday, October 1st
Pi Beta Sigma - Friday, October 2nd
Eta Phi Mu - Saturday, October 3rd
Pi Kappa Phi - Sunday, October 4th
How it works:
During the first week each fraternity will host a recruitment party open to every non-Greek male on campus. It is encouraged that as a potential new member you visit as many chapters as you can to have a better opportunity of finding the right group of guys. After the parties are over, fraternities will extend invites to interested men to attend their Final Parties the following week.
Once all final parties are over, men interested in joining a fraternity will come to the Campus Center to fill out a preference card stating which chapter(s) they would be willing to join. Fraternities will also put together a list of men they would be willing to extend a bid. At the end of the signing day, the two lists will be compared all mutually selected men will receive a bid to membership.

Formal Recruitment for the six Panhellenic Council (Panhel) sororities takes place the end of September/beginning of October and last for two weeks. Sign-ups begin the first day of school and run through the first day of formal recruitment and can be done online. The sorority recruitment process is designed to help potential new members (PNM’s) meet and interact with every sorority to have a better opportunity of finding the perfect match.
How it works:
In the first round (Open House) every PNM will have the opportunity to visit each of the six sororities and their houses. After the first round, PNM’s will rank the sororities in the order they would like to see them again and the sororities will compile a list of women they would like to spend more time with. The two lists will then be compared and if there is a mutual agreement between PNM and sorority you will have the opportunity to see up to four chapters a second time for Novelty Parties.
After Novelty Parties, PNM’s and sororities will complete the same process, where PNM’s will rank the sororities in the order they would like to see them again and the sororities will compile a list of women they would like to invite to their Final parties. The two lists will again be compared and if there is a mutual agreement between PNM and sorority you will have the opportunity to see up to two chapters for Final Parties.
Once final parties are over, each PNM will rank however many (0-6) sororities she would be willing to accept a bid to membership. At the same time the sororities will rank all the women they have seen in the order they would like to offer them a bid to membership. The lists will then be compared and PNM’s will become a new member of a sorority.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the umbrella organization of the nine historically African American, international Greek lettered fraternities and sororities. Otterbein currently shares city-wide charters with Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta.
Each of these groups conducts an “intake” process for new members in assistance with their local Graduate Chapter (a group of local alumni of each organization in the Columbus area). Intake varies from year to year based on each individual organization. If you are interested in membership in an NPHC organization you can contact a member of the group or the Center for Student Involvement.
