Nursing, Student Affairs to Expand Prescription Education Program

November 30, 2013

The Department of Nursing and the Office of Student Affairs at Otterbein University received a $10,000 grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation to expand current programs related to prescription medication misuse.

Otterbein's Prescription Education Program (PEP) was initiated through meetings with the Department of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs, the Otterbein University Student Nurses Association (OUSNA) and the Ohio State University Generation Rx.

Otterbein plans to expand its educational activities to the campus community and initiate educational activities into the senior citizens' community, the school health community and advance practice nurses using established service-learning collaborations. By targeting these community populations, Otterbein will meet the grant program goals of increasing awareness of the prescription drug abuse issue, increasing knowledge of how to reduce access to prescription drugs and willingness to openly discuss the issue of prescription drug abuse.
