Alumna Receives Excellence in Communication Award

Cassie Horvath, who graduated from Otterbein in 2007 with an equine pre-vet degree and who is currently a fourth year veterinary student at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, was chosen by OSU faculty and staff as the winner of the 2014 Bayer Excellence in Communication Award. Cassie will receive a $2,500 scholarship and the chance to compete at the national level for an additional $2,500 scholarship.

The Bayer Excellence in Communication Award was established by the Bayer HealthCare LLC to recognize the importance of communication in veterinary medical practice. This award rewards students who are mastering effective communications skills that will help them establish good client relationships, encourage client adherence with medications and treatment plans and demonstrate the full value of veterinary care visits.

The competition included submission of a filmed interview in a clinical setting between the veterinary student and a client. Cassie's interview received the highest rating our of 24 submissions.
