The community is invited to SPROUTS!, a free event for children at the Otterbein Community Garden, 600 N. Spring Rd., Westerville. Children will learn about gardening, get their hands in some dirt, create a fun garden craft, and enjoy a tasty treat! SPROUTS! will be presented from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, and 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28. All participating children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more information, email email@example.com. Visit the Otterbein Community Garden on Facebook for inclement weather notices or for more information and photos of the garden. This program is sponsored by the Otterbein University Center for Community Engagement.
Otterbein’s Community Garden is a partnership between Otterbein’s Center for Community Engagement and Westerville area partners with outstanding benefits for the community. The garden is divided into plots that are cultivated by a variety of community groups, including schools, neighborhood associations, veteran's groups, senior citizen living communities, and immigrant communities. These gardeners use gardening tools and water provided at the site. Much of the resulting produce is donated to the food pantries to feed members our community.
The garden also serves as a research site for Otterbein students; an educational site for youth camps and workshops; and an example of sustainable gardening practices and education for community members.
