Independent College Visit Days Introduce Private Colleges to Families

June 02, 2017

Westerville, OH—Otterbein University is taking part in this year’s Independent College Visit Days on June 27, 29 and 30. This statewide collaboration with the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio (AICUO) and Ohio’s private colleges and universities allows families to visit up to six private schools over three days.

Visit Days are aimed at helping families understand how affordable a private college education can be. The days also highlight other benefits of attending a private college including a higher four-year graduation rate and lower default rate on student loans.

“It is time Ohio students considering college learn what affordable opportunities there are for them at Ohio private colleges,” said AICUO President Todd Jones. “We know that many families fear they can’t afford a private college education and these visit days will help students see that a private college may be the right fit for them.”

Families visiting Otterbein and at least one other participating school during the official Ohio Independent College Visit Days who document their visits on Instagram using #YOUCANVisitDays will be entered to win one of five $1,000 YouCan book awards.

Ohio joins a select number of states that are joining forces with competing peers to highlight access and affordability at private universities. Presidents and vice presidents of enrollment management at Ohio’s private institutions started this conversation, agreeing that it was time to tell the story of affordability.

“Access and affordability is on the minds of students and their families every day in the college search process,” said Jones. “We want families to understand the real cost of attending an Ohio private college. We also want them to know that as a result of the smaller classes and personal attention they’ll get--they’ll see real results--like higher four-year graduation rates than other options in the state.”
