Alumna is No. 1 Babysitter in New York City
Abby Berger
Department: Theatre & Dance
Major: Theatre Administration
Class: 2011

One of the best ways Otterbein University gets its name out into the world is through the success of its alumni. Recently, The Wall Street Journal published an article about one of Otterbein’s young alumnae, Abby Berger ’11. Otterbein can now claim that it has proudly produced the No. 1 babysitter in New York City, according to UrbanSitter.com.

Not only is Berger on top of the charts among the 1,500 local sitters, she is also one of the most affordable. The average rate in the City is upwards of $15 an hour, whereas Berger charges the rate of $13 an hour. So when families hire her, not only are they getting A-plus service, they are getting it at a reasonable rate.

So what does it takes to be the best babysitter in New York City? The answer is surprisingly simple for such a competitive environment.

“I guess a combination of availability and me annoying the crap out of clients to rate me,” said Berger. “But it’s a fun job that sure beats waitressing.”

With recommendation and on-time client ratings of 100 percent, more than 20 five-star ratings and 19 repeat families, according to her profile on UrbanSitter.com, it’s obvious that Berger has figured out some sort of babysitting success formula.

While being New York City’s No. 1 babysitter is how most people now know her, Berger is hoping to be known for something else. Having majored in Theatre Administration at Otterbein, Berger would like to get into the talent management business, and she recently got her foot in the door. Berger has landed a job as an assistant with the talent management agency, The Mine, in the City and is saying goodbye to the days of babysitting.
