Acting Grad Gets 'Smashing' Start to Career
Jake Robinson
Department: Theatre & Dance
Major: Acting
Class: 2012

Jake Robinson ’12 has had a ‘Smashing’ start to his acting career.

After graduation, he moved to New York City where he landed his first professional acting job, shooting Timmy Two Chins for Showtime. He then landed a role on NBC’s hit show, Smash last fall.

Since then, Jake has landed the lead role in the upcoming Indie film, Long Shot Louie; a role in Liongate’s feature film, Old 37; and the role of Bennet Wilcox on the CW’s The Carrie Diaries.

Jake credits Otterbein with preparing him for his professional work.

“Otterbein taught me to be a complete person,” he said. “I would not be the actor I am, or have the chances I have, without Otterbein.”

While at Otterbein, Jake was cast in An Absolute Turkey, Pippin, A Doll’s House, The Wild Party, The Understudy, Angels in America, Part I and August: Osage County.

His advice to young actors: “1. Be real to yourself and with others. It goes a long way; 2. Work harder than you think you should, but stop to enjoy the experiences; and 3. Know that everyone’s path is different. There is no one way to become a successful artist.”

Catch Jake on The Carrie Diaries on the CW network on Mondays at 8 p.m.
