Students from Health and Sport Sciences Senior Instructor Patti Wilson’s First Year Seminar class – Discovering and Developing Your Strengths organized the first-ever HeartChase event on a university campus. The event took place on Saturday, October 27 and raised over $1,400 for the American Heart Association. Students from three Department of Health and Sport Sciences classes also volunteered at the event.

The event is a community event to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association. It is a combination of the Amazing Race and Minute to Win It. Teams raced around campus following a map on their smartphones and completed fun challenges at 10 checkpoints. Each checkpoint earned them a scan of a QR code for points. There were also hidden QR codes all around campus that teams could scan for extra points.

The winning team was Team Payne with 3,640 points. Over 100 students participated in the event as either volunteers or teams. The students hope to make this an annual event on campus.
