Recent Otterbein University graduate Rachael Puthoff (Celina/Marion Local) has been awarded the prestigious NCAA postgraduate scholarship for softball, announced recently by the organization.
Puthoff is now just the third Otterbein student-athlete to ever earn the award, joining 1972 graduate Steve Traylor (football, basketball and baseball) and standout women's soccer player Jenny Knox in 2010.
The NCAA awards as many as 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women, broken down to 29 for both male and female during each of the fall, winter and spring sport seasons. The one-time grants of $7,500 are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
"I am honored, speechless and so very happy that the NCAA chose me for this scholarship," said Puthoff, who recently began graduate school for physical therapy at Ohio University. "Both my undergraduate and graduate tuition is a responsibility for me to pay on my own, so this is a huge help and more than what I could ask for."
