Cardinals Flock Back to Campus for First Flight

Posted Aug 22, 2019

Otterbein University residence halls and sidewalks are filled with students once again as they arrived on campus Wednesday, Aug. 21. More than 720 new first-year and transfer began First Flight, their official introduction to campus. This class included the first cohort of Dual Admission Program, who were admitted to both Otterbein and Columbus State Community College and completed their first two years of classes at CSCC.

“First Flight is an important time for new students to transition to college with the help of student leaders prior to classes beginning,” said Assistant Director of the Center for Student Involvement Ashley Secord. “The week provides opportunities for students to connect with their academic departments, meet with their First Year Seminar courses and attend events to help them get acclimated to campus.”

This year’s First Flight program will include many favorite activities like the Picnic at the Rock, Barlow Beach Party, late night Party with Cardy, Schneider’s Bakery donut run, and the March to Convocation and Clap-in.

Returning students move in on Sunday, Aug. 25, and students involved in athletics and other activities have already arrived on campus.

Classes for the 2019-2020 school year start on Aug. 26. After their first week of classes, all students are invited to celebrate at the First Friday Festival on Aug. 30 at the Campus Center. This annual tradition closes the first week of classes with activities showcasing Westerville businesses, campus organizations and the variety of ways students can get involved on and off campus.

Welcome back to campus, Cardinals! Have a great semester.
