Teaching areas: Equine Medical, Surgical and Health-Related Issues for Equine Preveterinary Medicine/Pregraduate students and Equine Veterinary Health Technology students. She also advises students on related internship and career opportunities in the equine industry. She has an avid interest in the plight of the unwanted horse in the USA. Students in her Service Learning course present to high schools, pony clubs, and 4-H groups, educating them about understanding responsible ownership, including a look to the future to provide a humane outcome to the horse that is no longer suitable for its intended use. She served as chairperson in the formative years of the department, fostering its academically rigorous growth coupled with experiential hands-on learning.
Dr. Calderone is a graduate of The Ohio State University University College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the faculty at Otterbein after spending time as an exclusively equine ambulatory practitioner, and in addition did the stallion management and mare reproductive work at a large Arabian breeding farm.
In order to stay current with new developments in equine diagnostics, surgery, medicine, and therapeutics, Dr. Calderone has had sabbatical opportunities at these facilities

In past years, Dr. Calderone has chaired the Equine Program of the Midwest Veterinary Conference and attends the American Association of Equine Practitioners' Convention whenever possible.
She's a member of The American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, and the 5th District Equine Practitioners Group in central Ohio.
