Westerville, OH—Otterbein University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom at its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. The theme of the event is Transformed Nonconformist, based on a sermon by King. The event is free and open to the public.
Students will read excerpts from the sermon, as well as biographies of Rosa Parks and Bayard Rustin to show how they were Transformed Nonconformists and their influence on the Civil Rights Movement. The program will include music by Otterbein’s Gospel Choir and the presentation of the annual Peace and Justice Awards.
The convocation will be followed by a reception and recognition of the MLK Multimedia, Essay and Art Contest winners. For more information, contact Lisa Phillips at email@example.com.
