Otterbein Keyboard Series presents John Perry
The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a piano recital by guest artist John Perry at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St. The program is free and open to the public.
Perry will perform Mozart’s Sonata in B-flat, K. 570; Estampes by Claude Debussy; Chopin’s Mazurkas, op. 59; and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in A-flat, op. 110.
Perry is a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto; professor at the California State University of Music Northridge; professor emeritus at the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles; and summer faculty at the Banff Center in Alberta, Canada. He has won numerous awards, including the highest prizes in both the Busoni and Viotti international piano competitions in Italy and special honors at the Marguerite Long International Competition in Paris. He has performed extensively throughout Europe and North America and has collaborated with some of the finest instrumentalists in the world. He has presented master classes and served as a jury member for piano competitions throughout the world. He has taught two first-prize winners in the Rubinstein, four first-prize winners in the Music Teacher’s National Association national competition, and first-prize winners in the Naumburg National Chopin competition, Beethoven Foundation competition, and a variety of other competitions. Otterbein to Present Series of Jazz Concerts
The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a series of free jazz concerts at the Westerville Old Bag of Nails Restaurant and Pub, 24 N. State St. The concerts will take place at 8 p.m. on the last Thursday of most months of Otterbein’s academic year. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. A cash bar will be available.
