Otterbein’s award-winning weekly student newspaper, the Tan & Cardinal, will be transformed this year to a daily student media website otterbein360.com and a quarterly magazine, t&c.
“This change in format allows the students to get experience in a daily newsroom environment while still emphasizing quality writing and long-form reporting projects,” said Associate Professor of Communication Hillary Warren, the organization’s co-adviser.
The Tan & Cardinal has been publishing since 1917 and the staff added a web presence more than 10 years ago and started a magazine, 1847, in 2011. The newspaper has won significant national and regional awards over the past decade.
The website has been recognized by the Ohio Newspaper Association as one of the best college media sites in the state.
The quarterly magazine, t&c, builds on the success of 1847 and will provide students with the opportunity to work on a full-color magazine while guided by co-adviser Mike Wagner, an investigative reporter at the Columbus Dispatch.
“We are happy that the program is able to change with the times and continue to serve the Otterbein community while also serving the educational and pre-professional needs of our students,” Warren said.
