Preparing to Study Abroad

Not all study abroad experiences are the same.  The following list demonstrates a typical departure plan.  To determine your timeline visit the Center for Student Success.

Months Prior 

   
 12-6 Meet with Study Abroad Coordinator   Review Program options, budget, course selection
 6 Budget
 Plan with family/financial aid
 7-5  Apply to program Meet with Coordinator before submitting official program application 
 3  Course Selection  Have a detailed course WISH LIST to be approved by department chair
 3  Apply for visa  After receiving acceptance letter from program/university
 3  Financial aid  Meet to discuss official financial aid for program 
 4-1  Purchase Airline Ticket  After acceptance to program
 2-1  Course selection Complete Course Approval Form and return to Study Abroad Coordinator
 1  Study Abroad Departure Orientation  Study Abroad Coordinator (date TBD)
 1  Meet with Coordinator  Final check in before departure

Preparing to Study Abroad

  • Meet with CIEGE

  • Six Months Prior: Budget

  • Six Months Prior: Fill out Otterbein Study Abroad Application

  • Three Months Prior: Apply for Passport & Visa

  • Three Months Prior: Financial Aid

  • Three Months Prior: Course Selection

  • Four-One Month(s) Prior: Purchase Airline Ticket

  • One Month Prior: Campus Run & Departure Orientation

  • One Month Prior: Photocopies
