Wellness Calendar of Events 2015/2016 

Going on Now! 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Health Center, Flu Shots
Don't get caught off guard! Get your flu shot!

October 8, 8-9 p.m. in the Rike: "Campbell's Soup, Frosted Flakes and Sex" (FYE and IS approved) Special guest Dr. Linda Hancock takes a humorous look at the connections between alcohol and sexual behavior. Followed by free pizza, mocktails, t-shirts and driving simulators.

Beginning October 8 on WOBN 97.5, Thursdays at 10:30 p.m.: "Ask Eva" Eva Fried, Otterbein nursing faculty and women's health nurse practitioner, answers students' questions about sexual choices, health and protection.

October 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Health Center: STD/HIV Testing Free, confidential testing conducted by Columbus Public Health.

October 22, 7-9 p.m. in the Campus Center: Paint Night and Mocktails Wellness has partnered with CAB to bring you a fun night of painting and a pub atmosphere.

Now-November 4, noon-1 p.m. in room 3 in the Campus Center: "Wellness Wednesdays" (FYE and IS approved) Come learn about trending topics while enjoying free pizza:

9/30 Positivity: It's a choice
10/7 Marijuana: What's the big deal? Pros and cons of legalizing weed
10/21 Diversity and wellness
10/28 Sex: Just so you know
11/4 Step Up: Bystander awareness

November 4-11, OtterB Safe Week
Wellness is partnering with Dr. Robert Braun's class and Otterbein Police to bring you a week of health and safety programming.

  • Nov. 4, noon, Campus Center Room 3: "Step Up: A Prosocial Behavior/Bystander Intervention Program for Otterbein Students" (IS and FYE approved and a free lunch!)
  • Nov. 5, 12:15 p.m., Campus Center Lounge, Sexual Misconduct 
  • TBA: Alcohol Education
  • Nov. 7, 1:30 p.m., Stadium, Otterbein vs. John Carroll Football--Come to the game and get a free football with an important safety message!
  • Nov. 10, noon, Roush 114, Surviving an Active Shooter

November 19-20, 4-8 p.m. and noon-3 p.m., respectively: Tunnel of Oppression Featuring the hidden and not-so-hidden world of AOD and mental health issues happening all around us.

December and April, 4-5:30 p.m. in the Campus Center: No Stress Zone 
Unwind and relax during exam weeks!

January 27, 2-3 p.m., Roush 114: Eating Disorders and Otterbein Students
Wellness will collaborate with the Center for Balanced Living and Otterbein Recreation and Fitness to bring you important information on eating disorders and Otterbein Students.

Starting in January: Student Athlete Mentor (SAM) presentations.
Our student athlete mentors are committed to helping their fellow students drink responsibly and legally. Be sure to catch one of their programming events, which will run throughout spring semester.

February 12, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Happy Valentine's Day! 
Visit our Valentine's day booth to learn more about healthy relationships and sexual health.

February, TBD: Spring Break 2016
Stay tuned to find out what Wellness has in store for you to help you have a happy and safe spring break.

March on-line survey: 360 Proof
Ever wonder about Otterbein students' drinking habits? Separate fact from fiction. Participate in this very important survey!

April 6, 8-9:30 p.m. at the Campus Center: "Take Back the Night"
Wellness is partnering with Tau Epsilon Mu to discuss and raise awareness about relationship violence. 

Wellness Topics

The topics below are addressed throughout the year through various programming:

  • Alcohol
  • Substance abuse
  • Stress management
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexual health
  • Sexual assault
  • Women's issues
  • Rx drug awareness

Wellness-sponsored programs are designed to increase awareness on these important topics and help students develop strategies for handling issues that arise during the college years.

Students are encouraged to join support groups or schedule an appointment to see a counselor on campus when they are confronted with personal challenges or simply need an outside resource to speak with.
