Account Management and Activation

New Users Do These Three Steps In Order

1. Logon to Banner and Create a Security Question
The very first thing you will need to do is logon to Banner with the ID number you were provided e.g. A12345678 and your 6 number pin. Then, you will be prompted to fill out a security question on your first logon. It is very important you do this since it is only offered once. If you do not create this question and later forget your pin, you cannot retrieve your pin or create a question without knowing your pin first!

2. Activate Your Network Account
Next, you will need to activate your network account. Doing so will enable your access to all of Otterbein's network resources. Navigate to Otterbein's resources two ways. Use your O-Zone page or access all resources independently via www.otterbein.edu using the Resources link in the upper right corner. OZone is simply a personalized portal that logs you in automatically to resources such as Self-Service Banner (student services) and Blackboard. You can also access many other on-line resources, see your personalized academic and account information and read campus news. To activate this network account, see on and off-campus account activation instructions below.

3. Activate your Google Apps/Gmail Account
From on or off-campus, logon to My O-Zone with your newly activated network account. Click on the New Email link in the upper right corner. Select the Gmail logon. Type in your username. The first time logon password is your Otterbein ID number without the preceding "A." You will be prompted to create a unique password. A good tip is to make your unique password the same as your network password so you do not have to remember two passwords.

Activating Your Account from Off-Campus

Go to the new user page. You will need to know 2 pieces of information to activate your account. They are your OID (Otterbein ID) and your 6-number pin. These 2 pieces of information also log you in to your Self-Service Banner to handle all student services on-line. Upon accepted admittance to Otterbein University, you will be mailed your Otterbein ID and pin to activate your network account. Your Otterbein ID is your unique 8-digit number assigned to you by Otterbein and preceded by a capital letter "A" (e.g. A12345678) Once you activate your account, don't forget your password! You might want to write a password hint on a piece of paper until you have it memorized.

Activating Your Account on Campus

  1. Login to any lab computer and type newuser in the login box. Leave the password empty. Click Enter.
  2. Open Internet Explorer.
  3. Go to www.otterbein.edu/newuser.
  4. Follow the on-screen directions.

Setting up your myPassword profile

Information Technology is excited to finalize the work on a password self-management system called myPassword. Otterbein Users can setup their myPassword profile in advance using the myPassword tab in My Ozone. Setting up a recovery profile is as easy as creating a few custom questions. Once the myPassword system goes live you will be able to reset your password by answering your custom questions!

In the meantime : if you have forgotten your password see the section below on forgotten passwords.

Forgotten Passwords

If you've forgotten your password, you must call the help desk to have it reset. If you are a student call the Student Computing Manager at 823-1885; if you are faculty or staff, call 823-1747.

We will confirm your identity and then reset your password to your OID (Otterbein ID) without the preceeding "A". This is the unique 8-digit number found printed on your Cardinal card and available after logon to Otternet.

Please note: The Help Desk can only reset passwords between the hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (8:30 am to 4:00 pm in the summer).

Changing Passwords

If you know your network password, you can change it here.

If you know your Gmail password, logon to your inbox and you can change it by clicking on the drop down menu next to your username in the upper right corner (username@otterbein.edu), select "Account", then "Security".
