Awards and Recognition

Otterbein’s community service is getting attention from all over the country, including the White House. We first landed on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in 2006, its inaugural year, as a finalist for Excellence in General Community Service. In 2007, we won the President's Award for General Community Service. Since then, we have been recognized with distinction on the honor roll each year and we were named a finalist for the President's Award again in 2012. In 2010, Washington Monthly named us a Top 50 school for contributions to the public good.

In 2014, the Corporation for National and Community Service named Otterbein University a finalist for the President’s Award for Economic Opportunity Community Service. Otterbein also was recognized “With Distinction” for its commitment to General Community Service and Education Community Service. Read more.


The Center for Community Engagement is the proud recipient of several grants from The Women's Fund, Westerville Rotary, and Franklin Park Conservatory. These grants support the work of the CCE including the Otterbein Community Garden and the Women's Leadership Network.

Program Spotlights

Sportsmanship shines through with Otterbein Sports Pals program

Promoting sportsmanship and good behavior to a generation of future leaders is the goal of Otterbein University’s Sports Pals outreach program.

The partnership between Otterbein and Avalon Elementary School allows volunteers from several Otterbein student organizations the opportunity to dedicate a few hours each week to serving more than 50 low-income children at Avalon.
