Getting Started
In the olde days, topics were written on large arrows that were then nailed to a stationary pole.
Ways to Find a Topic
• Browse through your textbook until you find something interesting.
• Talk with your professor about your ideas, or ask for clarification.
• Talk with friends or classmates.
• Browse current issues of magazines or newspapers.
• Check out the library's resources (including a Reference Librarian).
• Consult the Internet.
Choose a Topic
Choosing an appropriate topic is important. If you pick a topic that is too broad (i.e. musical instruments) you will be overwhelmed with all of the information you find. However, if you pick a topic that is too narrow (i.e. triangle), you will become frustrated when you cannot find enough information. Use these hints to help you pick your topic:
