OPAL
is both Otterbein University's catalog and the combined catalog of
21 private colleges in Ohio. You can use OPAL to search for books,
videos, DVDs, periodical titles, CDs, music scores and more. Use the
OPAL catalog to find what Otterbein University owns, or expand your
search to all of OPAL (or any of the 21 private colleges individually).
If you still can't find what you need, you can search academic library
catalogs throughout the state of Ohio using OhioLINK. |
|
|
The statewide
online catalog is OhioLINK.
The OhioLINK catalog combines the library collections of the public
two- and four-year colleges and universities (such as Columbus State,
OSU, and Bowling Green) with private colleges (such as Ohio Wesleyan,
and, of course, Otterbein). |

You can
also access other area libraries, such as the Westerville
Public Library and the Columbus
Metropolitan Library. In addition, you can search OCLC's Worldcat,
a database composed of materials held in libraries from around the
world. |
| Electronic
Journals |
|
| The
library subscribes to a growing number of e-journals. Two of the best
collections of e-journals to use are OhioLINK's Electronic Journal
Center and JSTOR. You can search by topic or by a particular journal
citation. Try them out by going to the library's web page and choosing
the link for e-journals (roll your mouse cursor over the words Find
Articles and More and click on E-journals). |
|
| |
Try
Ohiolink's Electronic Journal Center (EJC) to find
full-text articles on your topic. |

Try
JSTOR to find full-text articles on your topic. JSTOR
includes an archive of many scholarly journals, however, it does NOT
have current issues. It is useful whenever you are looking for information
that is at least 4-5 years old. |
|
Also,
do not forget to check out the print journals and periodicals available on the second floor of the library. |

Databases |
|
Databases
are indispensable tools for performing research. A database is an
electronic or computerized list of books, articles, and other publications.
The library subscribes to hundreds of such databases. You can locate
a list of the databases by clicking on the Find Articles and More
from the library web page. Then you can either select the appropriate
database by subject or by title. Try out such databases as the Academic
Search Complete, Lexis-Nexis, Business Source Complete or ERIC. |
