Check the Accuracy of Your Sources
• Who "published" the information?
• What is the source of this information? Are there references or a bibliography to check?
• Is the website an official page from a particular organization? Watch out for pages created by individuals not associated with an organization, university or college.
• Was the material published by a vanity press (the author paid for its publishing) or by a commercial publisher?
• Check any facts in more than one source. Are the facts accurate? Are the facts plagiarized or quoted out of context?
• Is the information free of grammatical or spelling errors? Does the language used indicate the statements are factual versus opinion and rumor, or even humor?
