From Annette Boose

I love Otterbein and I am excited to be a part of the Where We STAND Matters Campaign. I hope to assist in building the culture of philanthropy on campus and increase the number of faculty and staff members who give.

When I came to Otterbein as a non-traditional student with an associate degree 20+ years ago, the faculty and staff (in what was then the Life Science department) were warm, welcoming, believed in me and pushed me to reach my potential. It was truly a life-changing experience.

I gained confidence to become an effective writer and researcher. I honed my photography skills because I learned to critically examine little details in the subject matter such as the distinct color markings on the wings of a butterfly for the purposes of identification. I learned to advocate for and educate people about creatures like freshwater mussels that are important indicators of the health of a freshwater ecosystem. I also gained a network of lifelong friends and later met my husband Andrew, also an Otterbein alumnus, through those connections. Daughter Elisha graduated from Otterbein in 2014 thus sealing our fortune as a legacy family, a status that we are all very proud to have achieved.

Why do I give? The reason I believe in and support Otterbein is because I care deeply about our students. I want all students to have the same wonderful educational experience that I had when I attended Otterbein. I want to personally make a difference in their lives. I’ve been giving to Otterbein off and on since I graduated. My first gift was a mere $19.94 in honor of the year I graduated and now I’m fortunate to be able to give more through payroll deduction.

For me, it’s all about the students, but there are countless ways to support something you are passionate about at Otterbein. Otterbein is a great place. What makes it great is you, me and the combined efforts of our strengths and talents being used to benefit the greater good.
