James Shand, Class of 1951

James Shand ’51 died Nov. 30, 2020. Jim was born May 18, 1928 in Warren, OH to the late William and Elizabeth Shand. Jim graduated from Otterbein College where is was in the band, choir, ‘O’ Club and Pi Kappa Phi (Country Club) fraternity. He then went on to earn his MA from Miami University. He taught music in the Trotwood Schools and retired from Northmont City Schools.
Jim also served on the Otterbein Golden Reunion committee and was a regular attendee at the June Bug Jamboree.
He was a member of South Park United Methodist Church, Van Wert Lodge 218, York Rite Bodies, Antioch Shrine AADNMS, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, 33rd degree Mason. Jim directed the Scottish Rite Men’s Chorus for many years, and also directed the Shrine Chanters for 8 years.
Jim is preceded in death by wife Martha Weller Shand ’51 He is survived by daughters, Pat (Steve) Wasch, Beth (Doug) Patton; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
