John Ellis, Class of 1987

John Ellis ’87 died June 15, 2022. He was born October 22, 1964, to Carolyn and John Ellis, former Columbus City Schools Superintendent.
He graduated from high school in Texas but had a B.A. in broadcast communications from Otterbein University. During his time at Otterbein, he was a part of the WOBN, Otterbein’s own college radio station.
His summer college internship at K-98 in Austin led to a career in radio and communications.
For more than 20 years, John worked for the Texas State Comptroller as a program specialist. He was an avid football fan of both the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes
He is survived by his wife Carmen; his parents John and Carolyn Ellis; and three sisters: Linda McNeill, Jeanine Ellis and Jeanette Hale; and nephew Gregory Hale ’07.
