And that about wraps up my #TuesdayTakeover ! For my last post, I wanted to share my favorite thing about my experience at Otterbein which is being apart of the cross country and track teams! I have had such an incredible experience over the past 4 years! I’ve made so many lifelong friends and memories, and have been surrounded by such a great and encouraging group of people. The athletic experience has been out of this world; the amazing coaches and lifetime opportunities have helped take me to the next level in my sport. But more importantly, the relationships and memories made are what matters most at the end of the day, and I feel so rich in that category. Forever grateful to be a Cardinal! #Otterbein

After my class, I do work for my internship. This past summer I interned with Nationwide, located in downtown Columbus, on the Data Analytics team in the Office of Internal Audit. I have continued my internship since, doing part-time work during the school year. I am starting a full-time position there beginning in June after I graduate this spring! The Center for Career and Professional Development at Otterbein was such a great help for me in improving my resume and cover letter, as well as even setting up my initial interview with Nationwide. They are a huge help and asset to all of the students at Otterbein. Columbus has so many jobs and opportunities to offer, which is one of the many benefits Otterbein has to give! #TuesdayTakeover #Otterbein

Time to start the day at Annehurst Elementary School in Westerville, Ohio with my fourth grade students! My favorite thing about the Education program here at #Otterbein is that I get the opportunity to be in a classroom in an elementary school almost every semester, which really sets our program apart. I love being able to apply what I just learned in my courses with the students in my classroom, gaining valuable experience that is shaping me as an educator. I have been in numerous classrooms where I got to form relationships with countless students and teachers who left a huge impact in my education. I am beyond grateful for these experiences and all that they have taught me, and I am looking forward to student teaching in the fall. #TuesdayTakeover

My favorite experience at #Otterbein has got to be being a part of the SOAR Team. Becoming an Orientation Leader has been one of the most influential and rewarding experiences of my life. Getting to show off this university and all the opportunities it has to offer incoming students alongside a group of talented and passionate individuals has been the highlight of my college career. I formed a unique community on the team and cultivated friendships that I hold dear to my heart, now and forever, all because of our unifying love for Otterbein. The orientation experience has shaped me into a leader, a better teacher, an advocate, and introduced me to people who I would have never met otherwise. I can’t wait to be an Orientation Leader again this summer and welcome all the new Cardinals and their families to this unique community we have here. Otterbein truly challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, but gives you the resources and people to support you on your path to success, which is why I love this university with all my heart. #TuesdayTakeover #SoarTeamYeah

One of my biggest inspirations and supporters in the Education Department is my advisor and professor Carrie Scheckelhoff. Her passion for education and love for literacy is contagious and I always leave her classes feeling prepared to teach the young minds of tomorrow. She is an expert at what she does and is always willing to answer my questions and guide me towards resources that will help me as a teacher. She challenges me in and out of the classroom as my advisor for my student organization and as my academic advisor. Without her, I would have never been an Orientation Leader as she nominated me for the position and encouraged me to apply and take a risk. The Otterbein Education Department is blessed to have so many supportive and encouraging professors, just like Carrie Scheckelhoff, and I can only hope to be as amazing of a teacher as her one day. #Otterbein #TuesdayTakeover

To end the day, I am spreading some love with my fellow members of Otterbein Catholic Student Ministry. For our meeting this week, we are passing out early Valentine’s Day cookies for free at the library on campus. This is a tradition for our organization as we get to teach others about St. Valentine while giving everyone a delicious homemade cookie to brighten their Tuesday. Being president of Otterbein Catholic Student Ministry has given me a leadership opportunity, a strong spiritual community, and a chance to deepen my faith. If you are looking for a space to continue your spiritual journey or learn more about different religions, Otterbein has various religious organizations you can get involved with on campus. #Otterbein truly has it all. I joined Otterbein University Student Government in my first year at Otterbein as an At-Large Senator. Now, I serve as President! OUSG has brought me so many incredible opportunities including travelling to St. Louis, Cincinatti, and Phoenix for student government conferences! After meeting students from other schools and hearing their experiences, I really gained an appreciation for how involved students at #Otterbein can be in our shared governance process. The student voice and opinion is really valued at Otterbein, especially by President Comerford! One of the things I love about #otterbein is the opportunities they have for their students. I recently had the amazing privilege of working for @cnn and @nytimes at the National Democratic Debate held right her on campus the 15th 🇺🇸 not only did I get to be apart of history, but I also got to be the stand in for @amyklobuchar on the magnificent stage you see in above! (Even though I’m not in her podium in the picture). For someone studying Public Relations, this was a dream come true! The Point is like my second home. Most of the engineering classes are here, and most of my class time throughout my otterbein career has been here. I’ve also had countless late night and all night homework/study sessions here at the point. Today I have two classes, Automated Systems and Automated Systems Lab. We are studying the production of motion using fluids, electrical motors and drives. Today my group and I had to create a circuit that would extend a piston back and forth continuously for 10 seconds and then stop, all on it's own. Shout out to my awesome professor Dr. Hudoba for agreeing to be in my post and suggesting we dance along with the piston. #tuesdaytakeover #otterbeincardinals

I’ve had the privilege of working at the makerspace here at #Otterbein and got to work with cutting edge technology and have exposure to many innovative projects. We have a fully equipped metal shop, wood shop, laser engravers, 3D printers, vinyl printers, CNCs and lots more. The best part is that all of these spaces are available for Otterbein students to use for free, and there are even training workshops for those who wish to learn the capabilities of the equipment. I feel that this dedication to teaching really makes Otterbein standout and makes me proud to call The Point a second home! Keep scrolling to see a replica of a dragon which will be made to look like it's breathing FIRE! This is one of the many projects currently being worked on here at makerspace. Ultimately this dragon will rest on top of the Westerville library roof. Can't wait to check it out in its new home! PS: We better get the books some fireproof sleeves #tuesdaytakeover

Good morning! My name is Selena LaBair and I’m a Criminology and Sociology Double Major with minors in Philosophy and Psychology. This is my final year at Otterbein as I am a senior graduating this spring! I’ll be walking you through my typical Tuesday and some activities I’m involved with on campus. Lucky for you, this is my first day on the job at my internship with the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio. The Sociology & Criminology and Justices Studies Department is always on the lookout for exciting opportunities for those within the department, so I was notified of this position last spring. Given my broad background in the study of society and education thanks to Otterbein, I was able to land an excellent internship here that is paid and downtown across from the statehouse! #AICUO #tuesdaytakeover #otterbein

Greek life at Otterbein has been a sensational experience for me and has molded me into the outgoing person I am today! I’m a part of Tau Epsilon Mu whose philanthropy is women’s issues and women’s rights. Last year I served as TEM’s philanthropy chair, so I organized a large donation to the Moose Lodge with items such as pads, tampons, bras, and gently used purses to be distributed to women’s shelters in Franklin County. I also organized Otterbein’s 2019 Take Back the Night Event which is an annual candlelit march that happens on our campus as well as across the country. This march is meant to raise awareness for sexual assault, relationship violence, and domestic abuse as there are personal testimonies read at each stop along campus. As you can guess, I love Otterbein! So much so that I want to share all the amazing ways students can make the most out of their experience. That’s why I’m a peer mentor for one of Otterbein’s many First Year Seminar Courses! These are my students that I’m in class with every tuesday, the class is called “Our Voices – Race and Ethnicity in America.” What's wonderful about Otterbein is that it provides a space for such critical conversations to be had, identities to be found, and experiences shared. Being a peer mentor has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've been a part of at Otterbein. Watching my students grow this semester is going to be a blast! #otterbein #tuesdaytakeover

Otterbein has a competitive edge compared to other universities when it comes to creating opportunities for its students. A new and exciting development is the creation of a Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD) Chapter at Otterbein! This is a national organization that seeks to develop and advance women's leadership to strengthen the economic prosperity of the communities it serves. This year I am working with professor Dr. Melissa Gilbert to launch Otterbein’s chapter of WELD as a work study student. I am so proud to help found this organization on Otterbein’s campus to further women’s success in the world!
