More Than A Pretty Face

Otterbein campus is so pretty it inspired a Love Song, but like everything beautiful, it is more than just a pretty face.

The Otterbein Love Song

The beat isn’t as good as a Billie Eilish song, and the language is a little out dated, but the story behind the Otterbein Love Song says a lot about our school. In 1918 an Otterbein professor, Mrs. Grabill, was watching over a child with a potentially fatal illness. As she looked out the window she saw the towers from Tower Hall in the night sky. This sight inspired her to write the Love Song. The first few lines of the song are:

In a quiet peaceful village,
There is one we love so true.
She ever gives a welcome
To her friends both old and new.

Professors will often take class outside, while students enjoy relaxing or studying in the shadow of Towers Hall, a beautiful building on the National Register of Historic Places!

Designed to be more than just an academic building, The Point is home to modern classrooms, metal and wood shops, design and research studios, study rooms and businesses like Nestle and JP Morgan Chase. Students can also sit outside and enjoy the view of Otterbein Lake.

Otterbein cares about being environmentally responsible and has been designated a
Tree Campus USA
University for the two  years running by the Arbor Day Foundation!

Visit one of our on-campus galleries, or be inspired in our state-of-the-art building – Otterbein has a place for everyone!

We are adding solar panels to our residence halls to provide green energy to campus, while our community garden provides food to The Promise House and Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.).

Being green isn’t all sunshine and flowers and Otterbein isn’t afraid to get dirty in the name of the community. The manure from our equine department is turned into compost for the community garden! Don’t worry, we only use horse Emoji for this, student Emoji is disposed of as normal. Even waste isn’t wasted here!

Otterbein hosted the CNN/New York Times Democratic Debate in 2019, while former Republican Governor John Kasich has an office on campus, allowing students to live through history, and inspiring them to make their own.

Otterbein is known for its friendliness, and you are bound to see many smiling faces while walking to class!
