Data Science is the New Curriculum Trend

Posted Aug 24, 2022

Data science (think of a combination of statistics, mathematical reasoning, and data analytics) is a new curricular focus for high school teachers. The argument for data science courses includes the necessity to make decisions based on increasingly large and complex data sets. Many of our education graduate courses involve data use and analysis, as teachers must understand and implement constant assessment data cycles. In fact, one of the core courses in our Master of Arts in Education (MAE) program is Data-Driven Decision Making for Teacher Leaders.

We were pleased to learn that one of our Otterbein partner districts, Olentangy Local School District, was selected by the Ohio Department of Education to pilot a Data Science Foundations course at the high-school level.  Click here for more information about the pilot. Many of the Olentangy Local School District teachers take our professional development classes and earn their MAE degrees here at Otterbein.
