“Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812” Hits Otterbein Stage
Posted Nov 08, 2024
Otterbein’s Department of Theatre & Dance and Department of Music are collaborating to bring you an exciting production, the likes of which have never hit the Fritsche Theatre stage before! In fact, Otterbein Theatre & Dance is one of the first collegiate theatres to receive permission to produce the work. The production runs Nov. 14-17 and Nov. 21-13.
“Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812,” based on a scandalous 70-page slice of Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace,” is an electro-pop musical that debuted in New York in 2013.
The young and impulsive Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to meet her future in-laws and to await the return of her fiancé, Andrey, from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre, a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. As Pierre searches for meaning and peace in his soul, Natasha must find a way to navigate love and love lost in an uncertain world.
With a challenging score that integrates the orchestra into the show’s action, and daring storytelling told through an entirely sung-through script, “Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812,” is a theatrical feast, full of rousing choruses and beautiful scenery.
Tickets cost $30. The box office is open 12-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to performances. It is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability. Call 614-823-1109 or visit www.otterbein.edu/drama.
