Otterbein Cardinals Flock Back to Campus
Posted Aug 20, 2021
Otterbein University residence halls and sidewalks are filled with students once again as they arrived on campus Wednesday, Aug. 18. That’s when new first-year and transfer students began First Flight, their official introduction to campus.
A highlight of First Flight was the official class photo and march to their first convocation on Thursday, Aug. 19. The march route was lined with faculty and staff cheering on the new students at the annual “Clap-In.” This tradition is repeated when the students leave their graduation ceremony four years later.
“First Flight is an important time for new students to transition to college with the help of student leaders prior to classes beginning,” said Assistant Director of the Center for Student Involvement Ashley Secord. “The week provides opportunities for students to connect with their academic departments, meet with their First Year Seminar courses and attend events to help them get acclimated to campus.”
Returning students move in on Aug. 21 and 22, and students involved in athletics and other activities have already arrived on campus.
Classes for the 2021-22 school year start on Aug. 23.
Welcome back to campus, Cardinals! Have a great semester.
