Department of Sociology, Criminology & Justice Studies
Dr. Kern received her doctorate in Sociology from The Ohio State University. She teaches mostly in the Criminology and Justice Studies major but Introductory Sociology and Social Research Methods. She participates in the general education program, with classes in First Year Seminar, Integrative Studies, and Senior Year Experience programs. Her research interests have always been focused on those who are the “others” in their social settings, whether they be police officers who are women or participants in alternative belief systems, for it is by looking at those who do not fit in, that we can learn about those that do.
