Part-Time Faculty
Department of Theatre & Dance

Melinda Murphy teaches acting classes and coaches stage productions at Otterbein, specializing in somatic techniques as applied to movement, voice, characterization, singing and dance.  She also teaches classes and seminars for performing artists at other colleges, and maintains a private teaching practice.

Melinda is one of the few teachers trained in both the Alexander Technique and the Feldenkrais Method.®   She received certification in both methods in 1987, and has developed a teaching style that often combines the two.  In 2006 she began incorporating Fitzmaurice Voicework, with its detailed tools for breath and voice.  In addition to working with performing artists, Melinda has coached athletes, equestrians, and figure skaters, and has helped special-needs children and adults with movement, breathing, and speaking.

She is certified to teach these methods by Alexander Technique International (ATI), the Feldenkrais Guild® of North America (FGNA), and Catherine Fitzmaurice.  She received her BME Degree from The Ohio State University in 1981.
